White – farina so dense that no leaf green shows through. Green – no farina present on the leaf-like edge. Show self has a single coloured flower except for the paste centre. This can spoil the look of the flower if rain gets on it. Show (S) The eye of plants in this section is called the paste because it resembles unglazed porcelain: the paste is formed by a waxy substance, farina. There is no farina on the flower and the petal edges are ruffled. There is no farina (white meal) on the flower so it can be grown outside without rain spoiling the flower.īorder (B) The original garden auricula which is strong, sturdy and well able to withstand weather. The flower is shaded from dark to lighter at the edges. There is currently no public toilet at the site and disabled access is limited.Alpine (A) These are either light or gold centred. When travelling from Halesworth – turn off the Southwold Road and travel through Wenhaston past the Star Public House and out towards the A12 and you’ll find us on the right. When travelling from the A12 we are situated just before the turning to Blackheath Road on the left. Our collection of over 200 different forms will be on show and many plants are available to buy. Our expert grower Julie Nicholas will be available on the day to demonstrate how to propagate and grow these South African delights. Woottens Nursery now holds one of the most unique collections of Pelargoniums in the UK including some very rare specimens. Michael Loftus’s ultimate passion was for Pelargoniums, specifically the scented leaf and species forms. The most flower may be from the last full week in May however there are some Iris open form late April and some Iris may not open until June. Iris in the new viewing beds are available to view when visiting the nursery during opening hours. We’re moving thousands of Irises into new viewing beds on the nursery and rebuilding our collection of historic plants. Our fields are currently under rejuvenation.
